Have you heard about Freund von Freunden? It is an international, online publication that interviews artists of diverse cultural and artistic backgrounds including those that focus on design, painting, photography and more. Most often, these interviews take place in the artist residence and studio which convey an intimate setting for insight into their process, living space and artwork.
Today Charleston artist, Hirona Matsuda was featured in a delightful interview that not only shares her process, but is accompanied by beautiful photos of her living and studio space. She also mentions how the the close-knit community of the Charleston art scene is integral to her work.
Likewise, Hirona Matsuda is an asset to the Charleston community. She is represented by the Michael Mitchell Gallery and she recently curated a show at the City Gallery at Waterfront Park, A Long Time Ago…. This exhibition celebrates the art of storytelling. Redux artists Xin Lu and Liz Vaughan are included amongst many other accomplished local artists. If you haven’t had a chance to see it yet, the show will remain up until July 29th. There will be an artist lecture with Xin and Trever Webster on Saturday, July 28 at 4pm.
