The Art MECCA, a new gallery on 427 King Street, will be showcasing the work of Redux Studio Artist, Austin Grace Smith, on Thursday May 9 from 6-9 pm. Austin, whose slogan is “…the adventure continues”, intuitively paints on wood panels, allowing the wood grain to direct her brushstrokes. Austin will give an artist talk on her process and inspiration at 6:30pm. For more information please call 843-577-0603.

Record Store Day 2013

The Redux community LOVES music and around here, Record Store Day is an important holiday. What’s Record Store Day? Well, it’s celebration of music that began in 2007 after a group of independent record stores came together to celebrate the art of music and share their unique culture with the world. There are three stores in Charleston participating in this special event: Loco Record Shop, Monster Music, and Earshot. They’ll be hosting special in-store live performances and other promotions. Redux Artists to be Shown at ArtFields!

Get ready for the largest arts festival to ever occur in South Carolina! The long anticipated, ArtFields, opens today, April 19th at 12pm. For 10 days, this epic event will not only present live music, workshops, and lectures; but, it will showcase 400 works of art, selected from a pool of 778 entries. The opening ceremony will begin tonight at 5pm on The Green, and will continue until 11pm. Admission is free and open to the public.

Many congratulations to the following artists from the Redux community (listed below) who will be exhibiting their work and competing for $100,000 in prize money. The top prize of $50,000 prize will be chosen by a combination of ArtFields attendees and a jury of visual arts professionals. Yulia Pinkusevich’s Reversion Opens Tonight!

Please join Redux tonight, from 5:30-8:30pm, as we celebrate the unveiling of our latest exhibition, Reversion by Yulia Pinkusevich. The event will begin with an artist lecture at 5:30pm followed by a festive reception with beer, wine, music provided by DJ R Dot, and delicious treats graciously provided by Cupcake. The opening event will also feature a curated selection of new work by Redux studio artists in our Connelly Gallery.

Be sure to come hungry! One of Charleston’s favorite food trucks, Roti Rolls will be on site, serving a local, fresh menu that fuses Asian, Caribbean, Latin and Southern cuisine into their signature Roti Bread. See you there!

Yulia Pinkusevich’s Reversion Underway

Redux is like it never has been before. It’s walls are painted emerald green and are filled with white chalk drawings and organic bursts of bright red paint. There’s a mystical hum in the air as Artist in Residence, Yulia Pinkusevich transforms Redux’s gallery into a site-specific installation that examines the urban city as a relic.

Imagine a world of densely layered urban dwellings. Skyscrapers and labyrinths of tunnels fill this vision. This world is disconnected from nature and unaware of its ambient environment. Humans are stacked in layers, living atop one another in soaring structures. The aggregate map of their psychology is manifested in the form of their city… and then imagine it destroyed.

This is the vision Yulia is exploring as she prepares for her latest exhibition, Reversion which opens this Friday, March 29, from 6-8pm. Redux Intern, Cameron Bolus, captured these images of her work in progress. Don’t miss your chance to meet this amazing artist and experience her compelling vision.

Redux’s Austin Smith – Vision is Art

Redux Studio Artist, Austin Grace Smith, will be participating in the group show, Vision is Art with five new paintings. The opening reception will be tonight, Thursday, March 21st from 6-8pm at Carolina Eyecare Physicians, 1101 Clarity Road, Mt. Pleasant. A portion of the sales from this event will benefit Operation Sight, a local non-profit providing free cataract surgery to eligible South Carolina residents. This event is free and open to the public.

Other local artists to be featured in Vision is Art include: Alex Radin, Danita Cole, Jennifer Daly, Serge Skiba, Bobbi McLaughlin, Morgan Lail Rice, Jennifer Koach, and Ronnie Smith.

Sneak Peak at Redux’s May Exhibition

Lulie Wallace Opening Tonight!

Please join Lulie Wallace tonight from 5-10pm at Stems Floral Boutique, 208 Coming Street, downtown Charleston for the viewing of her 2013 Spring/Summer textile line and her latest paintings. This show is for one night only! After tonight, Lulie’s paintings and fabric may be seen by appointment at Redux Contemporary Art Center. Lulie is a high-spirited, prolific, and accomplished artist who has collaborated with Anthropologie, Serena & Lily, Urban Outfitters and more. Her works are in high demand, so be sure to get there early. See you there!
